Schofields Road upgrade fast-tracked: Duncan Gay

Stage two of the Schofields Road upgrade has been fast-tracked to August, the Roads Minister Duncan Gay announced last Tuesday.Mr Gay said this was made possible through a $135 million commitment that includes $70 million from the Housing Acceleration Fund.

The contract to build the 3.6-kilomtre stage two section of the upgrade between Tallawong and Vernon roads has been awarded to the OHL York joint venture.

It is expected to be completed by early 2017, with enough road corridor allocated along the whole upgrade to allow for the road to be widened to six lanes in the future.

“The NSW government is progressively upgrading Schofields Road to four lanes between Windsor and Richmond roads,’’ Mr Gay said.

Riverstone MP Kevin Conolly (pictured centre, above) said the upgrade would improve travel for all road users between the Rouse Hill and Marsden Park town centres, Schofields station and future North West Rail Link stations.

It includes new traffic lights at the intersections of Hambledon, Boundary, Junction and Vernon roads, as well as at Railway Terrace.

“Safety for pedestrians and cyclists will also be improved with a shared path and new street lighting to be installed,’’ Mr Conolly said.

The upgraded road will pass under the Richmond line near Schofields station and connect to Veron Road.

Detailed design work is now taking place for the third and final 2.5-km stage from Veron Road down South Street to Richmond Road.
